Description
CPU is a metal puzzle originally made by Rocky Chiaro and serialized by Puzzle Master.
It bears an idea from dexterity puzzles such as Craighill‘s Jack Puzzle or Heavy Hitter by Two Brass Monkeys, but it does not require you to actually hold all the pieces together with your hands.
The puzzle consists of a brass square base with 4 holes on each side and 8 brass rods with different sets of notches.
The puzzle comes already assembled and you will need to pull out of the rods to actually start solving. Despite that fact, it is absolutely impossible to spoil all the fun because as soon as you pull out all the rods — they will mix and you will immediately forget which one goes where.
The quality of the puzzle is nice. The puzzle itself is heavy, but at the same time — quite small. It may appear bigger when on the picture, so make sure to check the size of it in the description above.
Features
To assemble the puzzle you will need to put all the rods inside the square base. Considering that you will need to interlock the notches, the puzzle may appear quite hard at the first glance.
You are also able to rotate the rods inside the base to adjust and re-adjust the notches inside and make way for more rods to go in.
The puzzle is considered to be quite hard, but honestly I think it can be solved pretty quickly. It’s just a matter of some patience and trial and error.
Conclusion
Actually, I think CPU is very fun to fiddle with. It won’t get you frustrated too much and you will be able to logically assemble it back by investing a bit of time.
Very cool and rewarding experience.

Tips and Tricks
- You can save the rod without any notches for later — it should go in the last.
- Focus on using the rods with the most notches first to create passages for other rods and then carefully fill in the tunnels with other rods.
Important Notes
- If you want something considerably harder, check the Heavy Hitter or Jack Puzzles.
