Dexterity puzzles are certainly a great and different approach to what you would expect from your average puzzle. It does not require you to think outside of the box, but rather be thoughtful enough to correlate all your moves and do everything the right way.
Heavy Hitter by Two Brass Monkeys is a great puzzle that consists of 6 precision cut brass baseball bats that are intertwined with each other.
I mean, you need to put them in a way they are intertwined which, at first glance, seems impossible.
The quality of the puzzle is neat. The precision is great and all parts work great together so there absolutely no problem upon solving it.
Main Features
There are 6 baseball bats in the set:
- 2 with 2 grooves
- 2 with 3 grooves
- 1 with 2 grooves and the notch for the spring mechanism
- 1 with no groves, but with an embedded spring mechanism
I was instinctively comparing Heavy Hitter with another dexterity puzzle we have encountered recently — Jack Puzzle by Craighill. The main difference between them is that Heavy Hitter is HUGE! That does not necessarily make this puzzle easier. The brass bats are much heavier, so you will need to hold the unfinished construction quite firmly and sometimes for quite a long time.
As with all dexterity puzzles — the main difficulty is to understand how to handle the construction. You will feel, at times, that you need one more hand (at least) to complete it. You may actually ask somebody to help you, but most probably it will just complicate things.
The best way to solve this puzzle is to be patient and persistent.
Conclusion
In the end, I liked the final result. It does look stylish when assembled and is actually looking great when you put it on the shelf or a table.
An amazing gift for someone who is a fun of neat little trinkets like this.
The quality is great, the difficulty is just right and the overall fun is immense.

Tips and Tricks
- It is quite hard to explain in words how to assemble the Heavy Hitter so it is better to look explanatory video below. The baseline assembly goes like this:
- You get the parts with 2 groves and place them perpendicular to each other aligning the grooves.
- Then, you need to take the part with 2 grooves and the spring notch and align it underneath.
- Take 2 bats with 3 grooves and place the in a way that the lock the part with the spring and also form a hole for the last part.
- Insert the bat with the spring and no grooves in the hole and align it with the spring notch until you hear a click.
