Visual Description
Dovetail Concave, Convex and T are a set of small aluminum puzzles by Wil Strijbos. This is not the only set of Dovetail puzzle from Wil so make sure not to confuse this one with Dovetail Cubes — these are different, but also quite great.
All 3 puzzles have minor differences, but similar mechanics inside. I have found Concave and Convex to be slightly easier than T.
Puzzles look like a small aluminum rectangle with a different pattern on the top:
- Concave has a line that narrows a bit in the middle.
- Convex has a line that broadens in the middle
- And T — no surprise — has a “T” looking shape on the top side.
All puzzles are made in nice-looking metallic white and fresh green colors and match together in a great way.
Despite their small size you will definitely feel a great deal of weight (every puzzle is around 100 grams) that actually adds to a great aesthetic feel.
More to that, puzzles are quite durable and will not break, scratch, or damage easily which is a great advantage.
Main Features
The mechanism of these Dovetail puzzles is quite similar. Consequently, all three puzzles are solved in a pretty similar way. T might be a bit harder to solve due to a different pattern, but I guess the point of the T is to confuse and detract the puzzler — which is certainly an amazing move.
Nevertheless, I have found this particular puzzle set to be quite repetitive, and comparing to Dovetail Cubes — it lacks the diversity of solutions.
Nevertheless, the quality fo all three puzzles amazed me and I have spent a quality time solving all three pieces.
Conclusion
It is obviously a great piece that every Wil Strijbos fan needs to have in their collections. As for the complexity — it is not that great as Dovetail Cubes, so I would prefer the latter in the first place, but we have to understand that Wil’s puzzles are quite rare, so If you have a chance to grab Concave, Convex, T or all three at the same time — I would do it.
A great gift for a puzzle lover as well, they will definitely enjoy the quality and the solution process.

Assembly Tips
- All 3 models can be solved easily by smacking them on the palm of the hand or a table.
- T model is basically solved the same way but you need to squeeze the narrow sides of the puzzle (push the green part in the white part) and smack it on the palm to open.
