About Vitascope
First of all, it is a working cinematography that is inspired by the early days of cinema making. The design is exquisite — it will match great to any interior and will be a good addition to your office or a living room because of that great vintage feel.
Wooden base of the model is nicely complemented by plastic handles, the feel of a filmstrip and battery tat lights up a projector inside.
An interesting combination of materials and a big step forward to the whole 3D Modeling sphere.
Main Features
There are a few features that must be mention when talking about Vitascope:
- It’s really working as a silent cinematograph. We haven’t tested it with custom filmstrips (because we don’t have any — it’s 2020), but it seems that it can do it’s job with any kind of matching strip.
- It’s green! Not literally though. It can be put in motion by the hand generator so you don’t need to waste your time and money buying batteries.
- The assembly fits for all kinds of puzzlers — whether you are just starting or you are an experienced puzzle solver, it is definitely an interesting assembly that will take around 4-6 hours to complete.
It is a great model that is absolutely innovative in 3D puzzle world and will definitely impress anyone, be it a knowledgeable puzzle master or a newbie.
Conclusion
An interesting approach to say the least. It can be a great gift to a kid or a collegue.
Awesome design and solid usability makes this model a great addition to ROKR MECHANICAL GEARS series, make sure not to miss it.

Assembly Tips
- Make sure to use sandpaper for all parts! Yes, it might be time-consuming but is absolutely necessary for a smooth assembly.
- Use q-tips to get rid of excessive glue. You can go without that, but in the end the model might look a bit messy, Wiping excess glue will make it look nicer in the end.
- Watch full ROKR Vitascope assembly video below.
It is absolutely possible to create your own custom-made film and launch it in the Vitascope. You can find the descriptive manual below.
Custom-made Movie Strip for Vitascope
First of all, you will need to get the following items and software:
- Video editing software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator)
- Transparent film in A4 format
- Printer
- Scissors
- Hole puncher — you will need to make 4.5 or 5mm holes.
Then follow these steps:
- STEP 1:. Export the frames of a desired film into a sequence of images (clear images preferred). You can use any video editing software you can get your hands on.
- STEP 2: Clip the repeated scenes. Every movie is “shot on twos”, it means that there is one image per two frames of film. You need to delete the repeated frames or just select every second frame.
- STEP 3: Import the images into Adobe Illustrator (all in one layer) or a similar software.
- STEP 4: Scale the images into the red frame size (as shown in the video below).
- STEP 5: Drag the images into the frames and align everything vertically.
- STEP 6: Save and Print.
- Remember: filmstrip is 24-0.2 mm wide (only negative tolerance is allowed, no wider than 24 mm). We recommend using a laser printer for better effect.
- STEP 7: Cut out the film rolls along the edge line and punch holes on them.
- STEP 8: Connect all the strips together with a transparent tape and inject it into the Vitascope.
- STEP 9: Enjoy! 🙂

I completed the model and it worked perfectly. Today the light stopped illuminating. The white gears aren’t turning. Is there an easy way to fix, without having to take it apart?
Thanks!
Thanks for comment!
The light is standard model, you can order same as replacement or contact ROKR after-sales service Facebook: RokrOfficial Email: service@robotime.com
But anyway you need to get access to it by reassembling some parts.
Hope it helps. Please let us know if it worked for you.
I’m trying to create a custom made movie strip. Can you please link to an adequate hole puncher plier? I can’t find a rectangle plier head.
