Safe by Ugears is a great puzzle with interesting approach.
First of all, it is not as easy as it seems on the first glance — the assembly will take 4 to 7 hours depending on your experience with such puzzles.
The design is simple, but very sturdy, which is great for an actual safe. I have to admit I liked the giant “dollar” sign on the inside of the main lid — it looks great.
There is a lot of space inside the safe and it can be used to store valuables (jewelry, coins, diaries, candy, you name it).
The mechanism of the safe allows you to set your own combination code. There is a few different combinations that you can choose during the assemble — the parts you use and set during certain steps will affect the combination.
The instructions of the puzzle also contain a detailed guide on how to open a safe in case you have forgotten the combination — the, so call, emergency opening.
Anyway, even if you forget the combination it is also possible to try and play the professional locksmith. If you listen carefully upon rotating the safe knob — it is quite possible to understand what the right digits are.
It is actually much better than it looks — the assembly is exciting and one can learn a lot on how the real safe locks operate.
Most probably will not be suite for kids — as the mechanism is quite complex. Nevertheless it can be a great starter to dive deep into Ugears — great combination of complexity, quality and entertainment.
Of course we advise to refrain from putting something really valuable in that safe, in the end — it is more of a toy than a real thing (duh).
